ELLENSBURG — The Ellensburg Police Department is actively investigating eight residential burglaries reported over the holidays since Dec. 22.

According to EPD Capt. Mike Coppin, majority of the burglaries occurred in the north end of Ellensburg.

“It appears majority of these victims had left for Christmas break and, upon returning or having people check on their houses, they discovered items were missing,” Coppin said.

Coppin said most of the stolen items were electronics.

He said detectives are following up on leads, but currently have no suspects.

“Traditionally, this is the time of year we do have residential burglaries because people are gone — especially students,” Coppin sad. “This fits the pattern of this season.”

Coppin said those leaving for extended times, especially during the holidays, should have someone check their home, pick up their mail and any newspapers on their doorstep.

“Also, put your lights on timers so it appears lights are going on and off,” Coppin said.
